Blessing of the Badges

On Saturday, September 29, we celebrated the Feast of St. Michael's and All Angels with Mass at 8:00 a.m. followed by the Blessings of the Badges at the Charlestown Fire Station at 10 a.m. Fr. Art, a former police officer, organized this annual event to show community support for the first responders. Charlestown clergy gave mediations about service and sacrifice for others and offered prayers for the police, fire, and emergency personnel. Fr. David blessed the badges place on a table by first responders and their vehicles. Participants also received a St. Michael's and All Angels key chain.

The following Sunday, Fr. Art read the Order of Morning Prayer from the 1662 Book of Common Prayer at Revolutionary War Weekend at Fort at No. 4.

In late October, Bishop Marsh, Fr. David, Dcn. Scott, Jeanne Moody, and Aare Ilves attended the Clericus and DNE Synod in Poland Springs, Maine. We were delighted to see many friends from past Synods and to catch up.

On Saturday evening, October 27, Fr. David blessed the meal at the annual Harvest Dinner at the Fort at No. 4.

Phil Turner, our Junior Warden, organized the third Soli Deo Gloria musical thanksgiving service held this year on Saturday, November 3 in the sanctuary of St, Luke’s Church in Charlestown.

Each church in Charlestown and several from away, presented choral and instrumental selections.

The event was well attended and gave us a chance to sing together a variety of hymns and religious songs from different traditions.

Finally, we celebrated a series of birthdays at our Sunday services: Jeanne Moody (October 25), Bp. Brain Marsh (November 7), and Dcn. Scott Chase (November 14). Each birthday was celebrated with a blessing of the child of God during the service followed by a cake, candles, and a card in the parish hall. This year, Fr. David had the honor of blessing the Bishop – "Watch over thy child, O Lord…" – something that he had yearned to do for years.

We wish all our friends in the Diocese of the Northeast a profitable Advent, a joyful Christmas, and a healthful New Year.

God bless us everyone.
